Since 2012 Amsterdam has had a permanent BODY WORLDS exposition on Damrak. What can you see in the museum? What is the background of this revolutionary exhibition? And how can you go to BODY WORLDS with a discount?
Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS exhibitions - also known as Körperwelten - have caused a worldwide revolution. Never before has an exhibition changed the way people see themselves so much. It is the only exhibition in the world that is based on a donor programme.
The plastinates that can be seen in the exhibits originate from this donor programme. The process of plastination was invented by Dr. Von Hagens in 1977. In the years that followed, he continuously improved the process. In 1995, plastinates were exhibited for the first time to the general public in Tokyo.
After the success in Tokyo, more temporary exhibitions followed and now exhibitions have been held in more than 50 museums in North America, Europe and Asia. In 2010, the first exhibition of animal plastinates was also held.
The temporary exhibitions in Rotterdam (2010/2011) and Amsterdam (2012) were so successful that Dr. Gunther von Hagens decided to open a permanent exhibition in the centre of Amsterdam with a completely new theme: Happiness. Worldwide, there are only 5 permanent BODY WORLDS exhibitions, of which only two are outside of Germany.
The search for happiness and love dominates our lives, but what determines whether we are happy?
